Murata Power Solutions today announced the 6000A and 6000B series of surface mount power inductors. Designed for energy storage, input or output filtering and DC/DC converter applications, these compact inductors offer what is believed to be the lowest DC resistance values currently available. Both series can accommodate high current throughput and offer a wide range of inductance values.

The 6000A series comprises 11 models, with inductance values ranging from 5.8 to 57.8 uH, maximum current values (Idc) from 4.9 to 14.5 A, and a DC resistance from 5 to 36 mOhm.

Offering inductance values from 47 to 680 uH the 6000B series has 8 models that accommodates maximum current from 3.0 to 10.5 A, and have a DC resistance of 13 to 135 mOhm.

The inductors are supplied in tape and reel packaging for high volume, automated surface mount assembly and comply with the J-STD-020D reflow process.

Murata Power Solutions today announced the UWS series of 50 Watt medium power isolated DC/DC converters that are available in either through-hole or surface mount configurations. Meeting the DOSA standard for sixteenth brick dimensions of 1.31 x 0.91 x 0.36 inches, these compact units accommodate the wide input range of + 18 to + 75 VDC around a nominal 48 VDC. Input to output isolation is rated at 2,250 VDC so that the output is protected from spikes, transients and noise on the input.

Within the series there are three models offering outputs of 3.3, 5 or 12 VDC. Up to 54 W output is available without the need for any forced air cooling. The 12 VDC unit suits regulated intermediate bus applications. The outputs are regulated to within +/- 0.125% across all load conditions. Also, the outputs may be trimmed +/- 10%, 3.3 VDC model, or +10% to -20% for the 5 and 12 VDC models allowing the user to compensate for voltage losses.

Suiting a broad range of data and telecommunications applications, the UWS series has many self-protection controls such as overcurrent, overvoltage, input undervoltage and overtemperature shutdown. For systems requiring controlled startup and shutdown, an external remote on/off control may be driven by a switch, transistor or logic signal. This control can be selected as either positive or negative polarity.

Accommodating a wide range of operating temperature from – 40 degrees C to + 85 degrees C the series has guaranteed operation over the normal industrial range.

The UWS series complies with the internationally recognized safety standards UL/EN 60950-1 and CSA-C22.2 No. 60950-1 2nd editions for IT and commercial equipment.

Murata Power Solutions today announced the MEE3 series of single output 3 Watt ultra compact DC/DC converters suitable for a wide range of industrial and telecommunications applications. These single-in-line 4 pin packages (SIP4) provide 50% more power than previous 2 W devices using the same industry standard package. In addition, compared to other 3 W converters that traditionally use a dual-in-line 24 pin package (DIP24), the MEE3 series is much smaller resulting in a 200% increase in power density from 0.9 to 2.68 Watts per cubic cm.

Within the series two modules are available offering either 5 VDC or 12 VDC inputs. The popular nominal outputs of 5, 9, 12 or 15 VDC are available across the full MEE3 range. Typical converter efficiency is from 83% to 89% and is model dependent. No additional forced air cooling or heatsinks are required. The series offers exceptional load regulation, typically in the range of 2.7 to 6.3%.

These fully encapsulated units offer 1,000 V input to output isolation and can deliver full power across the industrial operating temperature range of -40 to + 85 degrees C.

The MEE3 series complies with the internationally recognized UL/EN 60950 safety standard for IT equipment.

The converters provide a pin compatible power upgrade path from Murata Power Solutions’ 1 W NKE/NME and 2 W NML series

The highly reliable automated Model 61 Boiler Blowdown Control System from Electro-Chemical Devices (ECD) offers a complete, ready-to-use system providing continuous control of the surface blowdown rate for commercial and industrial boilers, optimizing blowdown cycles and reducing scaling and corrosion to reduce plant operating costs and extend boiler life.

With its precision accuracy, the automated Model 61 Boiler Blowdown Control System reduces boiler maintenance make-up water consumption and the energy needed to heat it. In comparison to performing blowdown cycles manually, the system offers operational cost advantages by continuously adjusting the blowdown rate to optimize the boiler water's electrolytic conductivity.

As boilers operate, dissolved solids accumulate in the water. When total dissolved solids (TDS) become overly concentrated, they can cause damage to piping, steam traps and other process equipment and form sludge in the boiler. The sludge impairs boiler efficiency and heat transfer capability. To avoid damage from TDS, boiler water must be periodically discharged, or blown down, and replenished with fresh feed water.

The Model 61 System calculates TDS levels by measuring conductivity in the boiler water. The conductivity measurement is made using ECD's precision CS10 Conductivity Sensor, featuring a standard range of 0-10,000 µS or optional ranges of 0-1000 µS or 0-100 µS. Outputs can be configured using the standard T23 transmitter, the optional C22 controller or optional T28 transmitter for Intrinsically Safe (IS) or Explosion Proof applications.

The complete Model 61 System includes ECD's CS10 Conductivity Sensor in a rack mounted panel. The system panel features a modular design for easy installation. It includes a sediment trap for easy removal of sludge buildup, sample cooler, temperature gauge, sample control valve and safety relief valve. All wetted materials are constructed of rugged 316 stainless steel. The process connection features a compression fitting of 0.75 inch NPT to accommodate the CS10 Sensor. The system is designed to operate from temperatures of 0-100°C and at a pressure range of 0-75 psig.

The Model 61 System's C22 Controller is a 110/220 Vac line powered, dual input device with one or more 4-20 mA outputs in addition to conductivity (pH, temperature, PID) and up to eight alarm relays as well as timers and logic functions. The C22's 4-20 mA output can be configured as a PID control output. The PID signal modulates a control valve to keep the surface blowdown rate uniformly close to the maximum allowable dissolved solids level, regardless of load conditions.

The Model 61 System comes standard with a NEMA 4X rated T23 transmitter, which is a two wire, 4-20 mA transmitter. For hazardous conditions, the FM- and CSA-approved T-28 Transmitter is an intrinsically safe, explosion-proof two wire 4-20 mA transmitter offering the standard conductivity output.
